Course Overview:  During the first six weeks of the course, introduction of the computer keyboard and development of proper keyboarding technique will be emphasized.  The remainder of the course will introduce students to word processing concepts and document formatting using Microsoft Word, basic spreadsheet applications using Microsoft Excel, and business presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint. 

 

Grading: 

 

First Nine Weeks:  All students will be graded on a pass/no pass basis for the first nine-week period.  Students must demonstrate proper keyboarding techniques in order to pass.  Students who watch the keys will receive a non-passing grade for the first nine weeks.

 

Second Nine Weeks:  This grade will be a combination of production, timings, techniques and work habits, and tests.  A handout specifying percentages will be distributed at the beginning of the second nine-week grading period.  The permanent semester grade will be a letter grade.

 

Employability Assessment:  Businesses desire employees who are punctual, have good attendance, and are able to work well independently.  To encourage these behaviors every student will begin with an employability score of 100 points.  Loss of points will occur as follows:

 

            Deductions:    Unexcused absence = 10 points

                                    Unexcused tardy = 5 points (after first two tardies)

                                    Off task or inappropriate behavior = up to 5 points daily

 

Your Classroom Responsibilities:
