Biology 2003-2004
All assignments
are due at the beginning of class on the due date unless otherwise specified.
Late assignments will receive half credit. Work missed due to an excused
absence may be made up. You are allowed one extra completion day for each day
of an excused absence. Students with excessive excused absences are expected to
make up the work within a reasonable time period. It is your responsibility to request make-up work for days you are
absent. You may also check the THS website (ths.sps.lane.edu/thshrs) for
missed assignments. The website will be updated weekly. Work missed due to
unexcused absences cannot be made up.
Grades are
calculated using point totals from daily work, homework, lab reports, projects,
presentations, quizzes, tests, and class participation. You will receive 50
participation points at the beginning of each quarter and points are added
(bonus points) or deducted (see Attendance & Tardies) accordingly. Your attitude and level of participation
can tip the grading scale in one direction or another.
Due to the
discussion and hands-on nature of this class, prompt and regular attendance is
essential. Unexcused absences will result in the loss of 10 points per absence
from your participation grade and one detention per unexcused absence.
Detentions not served by the end of the quarter will result in an “Incomplete”
on your report card. Excessive unexcused absences will result in a phone call
home and a written referral. Every 3 tardies will result in the loss of 10
points (the equivalent of one unexcused absence) from your participation grade
and a detention.
No student has the
right to disrupt class and deprive others of their education. In order to
maintain a safe and positive learning environment, please:
1. Be kind.
2. Speak with integrity. Say only what you
mean.
3. Be yourself.
4. Ask questions.
5. Always do your best.
6. Clean up after yourself.
You are expected
to bring your textbook, notebook paper, and something to write with to class
every day. I strongly recommend that you invest in a 3” binder filled with
notebook paper that will become your “Biology Notebook.” The notebook will be
used for keeping class notes, daily work, homework, lab reports, and other
written assignments organized and easily accessible. In addition, it is
strongly recommended that you obtain an Internet sticker for research purposes
throughout the school year. Internet forms are available from the library and
from Ms. Fabbri.
