ATTENDANCE POLICY - Mr. Hertzberg EXCUSED ABSENCES: Only absences excused by the attendance office will be accepted as excused. Work missed due to excused absences can be made up for full credit anytime before the test on that material. After that, it is considered late, and worth only half credit. Late work is accepted any time during the quarter. UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: All absences not excused by the attendance office will be considered unexcused. TARDIES: Every three tardies amounts to one unexcused absence. CONSEQUENCES FOR UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: Unexcused absences that are not
made up affect your maximum possible grade. Within each quarter, the following
limits will apply: Students with five or more unexcused absences during the first quarter will receive "No Grade" (NG) for the quarter, and begin the second quarter with an unexcused absence for each beyond five. Students with a total of ten or more unexcused absences for the semester receive and "NG" for the semester and cannot receive credit for the class. In addition, work missed due to unexcused absences will be considered late, and worth only half credit. For example, a student who skips class on the day of an exam can make up the test but will only receive half the points earned. MAKING UP UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: Unexcused absences can be made up during activity period, after school, or by other means if I see fit.
ASSIGNMENTS: All assignments are worth 10 points. To earn full credit, an assignment must be turned in on time, with a complete heading (first and last name, period number, and lesson number), with at least 75% of the assigned problems done correctly, and all work shown as necessary. Assignments earning 10 points are recorded with a "star" in the gradebook. Assignments that fail to meet any of the requirements for a "star", but have at least 50% of the assigned problems done correctly receive only 5 points, and "check" is recorded in the gradebook. Make-up work is due before the student takes the test on that material. Such work is not considered late providing the student had an excused absence on the day the work was either assigned or due. Late papers are accepted for 5 points anytime during the quarter.
Semester grades are not necessarily the average of the two quarter grades,
they are calculated from start to finish throughout the semester. |
