Introduction to Business

Course Requirements

 

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course will introduce students to the world of business and provide a background for other business courses students may choose to take in high school and college.  Students will study business careers, business applications and procedures, and be involved with hands-on activities.  The course will include a business simulation where students will learn various small business management and operation skills.

Assignments           45%                      A = 90% or higher

Tests/Quizzes       35%                      B = 80-89%

Employability         20%                      C = 70-79%

                                                                             D = 60-69%

 

ATTENDANCE/TARDIES

Attendance is very important in this class as new material will be covered on a daily basis.  Guest speakers and videos are scheduled on a weekly basis and related assignments cannot be made up.  During the simulation portion of this class, your work will be interrelated with the work of others.  People will be depending on you to be in class and to do your assigned tasks.

 

Employability Assessment:  Businesses desire employees who are punctual, have good attendance, and are able to work well independently.  To encourage these behaviors, every student begins with an employability score of 100 points for each quarter.  Loss of points occurs as follows:

 

          Deductions:  Unexcused absence = 10 points

                             Unexcused tardies = 5 points

                             Off task or inappropriate behavior = up to 5 points daily
