SPORTS MARKETING AND
ENTERTAINMENT
CLASS INFORMATION
SHEET
Course Description: Sports Marketing and Entertainment is a class that will cover the many marketing facets of amateur, college, and professional sports. We will also cover the entertainment and recreational sports industries with emphasis on resorts and theme parks. We will touch on many different topics in a variety of areas such as public image, sports products and services, agents, community service, event planning, and marketing research. You will also be participating in the design, ownership, and marketing of an NFL Football team complete with fantasy games against other teams.
Expectations: Students in this course will be expected
to participate on a daily basis in all class discussions, simulations, group and
individual work, and presentations. This course will only be as fun as you make
it. Participation is a must.
Evaluation: All assignments and tests will be given
a point value. Your grades for the
class will be based on the following: 30% tests, 50% assignments and 20%
participation. Every 4 ½ weeks you
will receive a letter grade with a 9 weeks grade going on your report card and a
semester grade being your final grade for the course. The final semester grade will be a
continuing compilation of all the points earned for the
semester.
The
grading scale will be the following:
On
tests I will take the top score and use it as the starting point for the class
grading scale with the starting point going no lower than 85% of the highest
grade possible on the test. This
scale will not be used for ASSIGNMENTS. All assignments will have the normal
100% scale and use the total point possible as the starting point.
Participation: Your participation grade will be based on
class warm-up questions given each day that are worth 5 points. If you are tardy to class you may NOT
make up these points. It will
count just like an absence. If
you have to be gone for a school sponsored activity you will get automatic
credit for that day but you must prove that there was a school sponsored
activity and that you were a part of it.
If you tell me you were part of an activity and you were NOT, then you will be docked 15 points
from your participation grade as well as receiving a zero for any assignment
given that day. If you are sick for
3 or more days IN A ROW, other
arrangements can be made for you to make up your missing participation
points.
Also included in your
participation points will be a sports newspaper article from the Saturday or
Sunday paper that will be due at the beginning of the period on each
Friday. This article will be worth
15 points every Friday. If you are
absent on Friday you may turn it in on the next school day at the beginning of
the period.
Make-up Work
Policy:
Absences – If you have an excused absence on the day that the work is assigned
you will be required to turn in the make-up work the day after you return to
class. If you are here the day the
assignment was assigned but gone on the due date, the assignment will be due at
the beginning of the period on the day you return. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEE ME FOR
MISSED WORK! IF YOU HAVE AN UNEXCUSED ABSENCE YOU
WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE UP THE WORK.
Late
Work:
LATE WORK WILL NOT BE
ACCEPTED!! But, each student
will be given 2 late chips per nine weeks in case they want to turn in an
assignment late. They may NOT be used for newspaper
articles. They are not
cumulative from 9 weeks to 9 weeks. You will receive full credit with a late
chip. Late chips are good for 10
school days after the assignment due date.
USE THEM
WISELY!!
Missed Tests/Quizzes:
You
have 3 school weeks from the date of the test to make up any tests or quizzes or
the end of the semester which ever is closer. If you fail to make up these tests or
quizzes within 3 school weeks they will go into the record books as a zero and
you will not be able to make them up.
Be vigilant in making up your tests and quizzes because you CAN NOT use late chips for
them.
The
first five minutes of the period will be used to answer the warm-up question and
take care of unexcused absences, Friday cards, etc. You will not be admitted to class for
the day if you have an unexcused absence on the books.
