ROWAN/02           CLASS PROCEDURES

1.  Be polite.  Be nice to other people, like the golden rule says.

2.  Neat and legible work is polite.  Your name, the class period, and the date will be written on all work, or it will be returned ungraded.  Pee-chees and spiral notebooks are messy and messy papers reflect poorly on you.  Use a three ring binder.

3.  Turning work in promptly is polite.  Late homework loses 50% for each day that it is late.  Homework which is late may not be submitted for credit.  If you missed work due to an excused absence, write "absent" at the top of the paper, along with the date you submit the assignment. I don't have time to hound you about missing work.  It is your responsibility to find out what you miss from the assignment sheet on the bulletin board, and complete your work.  Extra credit may be earned for a maximum of thirty points per nine weeks.

COMPLETING YOUR HOMEWORK ON TIME IS YOUR SUREST GUARANTEE OF PASSING

NOT COMPLETING YOUR WORK ON TIME IS YOUR SUREST GUARANTEE OF FAILURE

4.  A polite journal will be required.  This journal will account for about ten percent of your grade.   Your three-ring binder will neatly hold your journal, class notes, handouts, and past assignments.  The semester test may include anything we cover, so you will need to keep accurate and complete notes.

5.  Regular attendance is polite.   If you are not here, you miss the exact experience of what happens in class that day.[1]  Do your best to be here.  We will be following the new schoolwide attendance policy closely.  It goes like this:  Make up absences within 48 hours.  Period.  If it's not pre-excused, bring me a note.  No note, the absence is unexcused.  Even if it is cleared with the office, bring me the note within 48 hours.  You will be required to serve a detention for every unexcused absence, and may make up work missed. Don't skip class.  Points aren't given in here directly for attendance; however, some assignments are difficult or impossible to make up if you miss class.  Be seated and ready to learn when you arrive.  "Ready" means having your notebook, PENS, and the necessary books.

6.  Tardies are impolite, and indicate poor attitude toward school on your part.  If you arrive late without a signed note from a teacher or other school official, you are tardy.  If you are over ten minutes tardy, you have an unexcused absence.  Be here with your materials at the scheduled time.

You are allowed two (2) free tardies per nine weeks. That's not many.  Every one after that second one is another unexcused absence.   Be on time.

7.  STUDYandPRACTICEandSTUDYandPRACTICEandSTUDYandPRACTICEandSTUDY.

AND study some more. Study and practice are the two mainstays of learning.  Time spent studying or practicing a worthwhile pursuit is never wasted.

8.  Grading - Your final grade is comprised of the following formula:

          1/3 - 1st Nine Week's Grade

          1/3 - 2nd Nine Week's Grade             = Your Final Grade

          1/3 - Semester Test Score

(These are judged as equal thirds, with the middle third being the most equal)

Each nine weeks is approximately 60% daily work and 40% tests or projects
