Silke Field sits directly across 10th Street from Springfield High School and right next to Springfield Middle School. Silke Field was built soon after Springfield High School (Springfield Union High School at the time) opened in 1942. Silke was named after the school's superintendent, Eugene Silke. Springfield High School and Thurston High School use Silke as their home football field every year all through the Fall season. Springfield High School also uses Silke for their track and field as well. Silke hosts the district track meet at the end of every season. It 's facilities, which reach back to the Willamalane Swim Park's facilities, also help host the Memorial Day soccer tournament held at Thurston High School every year.
The most exciting event held at Silke Field would have to be the Cival War every year between the Springfield and Thurston High School varsity football teams. The Stadium is packed with Thurston's Rowdy Rooters and fans, and Springfield's loud crowd screaming and yelling for their home team.
