History of KLSR
KLSR was started in 1987 by ASRC at Eighteenth and Oak St. in
Eugene. KLSR was known as Laser-25. It was the first station to
broadcast in stereo and to offer 24 hour programing. The station
broadcast from a low power, 1k watt, transmitter. Not all the
communities could be reached until two more channels were purchase (57,63). Now, south Eugene and all of Springfield could receive the
channel. At first, Laser-25 played 24 hour music videos. John Mielke had been the
General Manager at the Anchorage station and was employed to
come to Eugene to build a station. This station would broadcast a signal over
all of Eugene, Corvallis, south of Roseburg, Florence, and Oakridge.
Laser-25 combined with Fox Broadcasting and became KLSR.
