The German American Partnership Program (GAPP) is a program that helps students to experience the culture and language of another country. Students from Springfield, Thuston High School visit students from Neckartenzlingen, Germany, and the other way around. GAPP is directed by the Goethe Institute, the educational branch of the German government. It is qualified by local teachers and approved by the State of Oregon. It offers a way for participating students to build international friendships and gain important life-skills.

The exchange lasts for three weeks. The American students visit Germany in the spring and the German students come to America in the summer. Each student will stay in host family, attend school, participates in field trips, and visits a major city. The students are chaperoned by teachers and parents, but are expected to enter the program already with a high degree of maturity and self-control.

The trip costs around $1600, including airfare, passport, essentials and a city visit. Scholarships are given to active participants. Fundraising success depends on student and parent involvement. There is a non-refundable deposit of $200.
