  • A contemporary view of the literary hero as protayed in poetry and prose, and media. The student will develop an understanding of the heroic type from a traditional and contemporary point of view.

231 - Women in Literature

  • Focuses on women's issues and experiences though discussion of short stories, poetry, and essays by a variety of outstanding women writers. Films and guest speakers supplement readings.

234 - Satire

  • Presents various types of satire and their uses. Studies include and intoduction to the major writers of satire such as Jonathan Swift, Flannery O'Connor, and George Orwell. Satire is an artistic work in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony or wit.
