Community 101
Community
101 provides students an opportunity for real-life learning through
philanthropy and volunteering. It is a leadership experience that
empowers students to directly impact their community through civic
engagement. Students discover they can make a difference. Students
learn about their community through grant-making and
volunteering.
They determine a key community issue they wish to focus on and
establish a mini-foundation. After surveying the student body, this
year's students determined that child abuse was the most significant
community issue. Students awarded grants totaling $5000 to the Relief
Nursery, SCAR/Jasper Mountain, Child Advocacy of Lane County, and CASA
of Lane County.
