Racing
for Reading--Students learned how much of students' academic
success is
tied to literacy skills. Students received conducted research on
reading and literacy, received SMART (Start Making a Reader Today)
training and read to preschool and elementary children, wrote
children's stories, and ran a book collection drive for students at
Thurston Elementary School.

Reading --last semester’s SL students researched literacy. They learned
how important it is that children learn to read by 3rd grade. They
researched, were trained to become readers, worked at local preschool
and elementary school as reading tutors and buddies, wrote children’s
books, and created a community book drive to get books for the local
elementary school. |
